Here are the names of a few places to visit in Second Life
Educational sims:
Eduisland: is a series of sims all having to do with real life schools and libraries. It is split up into regions, each region has a lot to see.

Evergreen Island: This is the island owned by the Washington State Board for Community and Technical Colleges. There has been a lot of new construction here lately and it's a great place to check out.

NOAA's Virtual Island: Lots of weather related information and activities.

Genome Island: Information on biology and genetics, lots to see and do here.

Sight Seeing:
SL Botanical Gardens: there are a number of botanical gardens in Second Life, but the SL gardens are really beautiful. It's fascinating to see what the residents have built to create a relaxing garden setting.

Svarga: This island has been created to be a virtual eco-system, the plants interact with the insects and you can even feed virtual birds there. And, it's a very lovely garden setting as well. Interesting to explore.

Lauks Nest: Built by the creator of Svarga this is also a nice place to visit although it's not as advanced and interactive as Svarga.

Stone's Point Park: A seaside park setting with a variety of activities and things to look at. Some of the sightseeing is done under water.
